Surf Project (The Netherlands): Surfing lessons for children with Down syndrome, autism and ADHD

The Surf Project is a Dutch non-profit organisation, which provides structured surfing lessons for children with Down syndrome, ASD and ADHD. In this video, we introduce the Surf Project and give a short overview of the setup and key aspects of the program.

The Surf Project is run by a large group of enthusiastic, trained volunteers. Each child is guided by a personal mentor. Children, parents and volunteers create a positive atmosphere together. Everyone involved greatly enjoys the experience.

Our research shows that the surfing lessons have a positive impact on the children's quality of life. Specifically, children increase in their psychological well-being, social-emotional functioning, and they even feel better at school.
